The Last Five Years

Lewis & Clark Theatre Company presents the award-winning musical The Last Five Years, August 13 & 14 at 7:30 with Matinee on Sundays August 15 at 2pm.
An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backward while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically.

Yankton Riverboat Days

The 38th Anniversary of Yankton Riverboat Days will be held August 20-22 at Riverside Park. The free party by the river includes arts festival, kids activities, and incredible food vendors. JoDee Messina will be performing on Friday night and Sweet Siren on Saturday night. Plus antique tractor exhibt, bull riding, fireworks, & parade!

Swinging for Hope Golf Tournament Fundraiser for CASA

Enjoy an afternoon of golfing and games, prizes and fun, all in the name of giving hope to local children who have experienced abuse or neglect. All proceeds from this FUN fundraising event will provide CASA advocacy services for children in Clay, Union, and Turner counties in South Dakota. This 18 hole golf tournament fundraiser will be held Sunday, August 21st at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

Registration and lunch will be held form 11:30-1pm with tournament starting at 1:00. The registration fee for each 4 person team is $300 and includes green fees for four, 2 complimentary cart rentals, and lunch for four! Register your team today online at www.southeastcasa.org/golf.

 

 

Pooch Plunge

The Heartland Humane Society, along with the City of Yankton Parks and Recreation Department, invites the community to the 10th annual Pooch Plunge at the Huether Family Aquatics Facility.  This will take place in the Adventure Pool and the Splash Pad only. This dog swim event will be held on the evening of Tuesday, August 24th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.  There is a free will donation for the dogs that are brought in to swim, and each dog must be accompanied by a human companion. Dogs and their humans are invited to swim as lifeguards will be on duty. Proceeds from the Pooch Plunge will go toward the care of Heartland Humane Society shelter pets and supplies. All dogs should have a collar, carry ID tags, be properly licensed, vaccinated and in good health to participate. Please ensure all dogs are leashed until ready to take the plunge. Please be courteous and be prepared to clean up after your dogs.

Spiritual Enrichment Program

Join the Benedictine Peace Center as they offer the 4th Spiritual Enrichment Program, focusing on personal transformation. If you want to deepen your faith life by connecting with others who share the same desire, please consider joining one Saturday morning a month, 9:30 to 11:30, from September through April.

This one-year Spiritual Enrichment Program is open to men and women (by video-conferencing / Zoom) with Sister staff members in the Benedictine Peace Center to share prayer and a facilitated group dialogue about the selected reading in Jeffrey Tacklind’s book, The Winding Path of Transformation: Finding Yourself between Glory and Humility.
As part of this enrichment program you will also be able to schedule a personal silent retreat, with two overnights, at the Peace Center.

Outdoor Summer Movie Series

Enjoy an outdoor movie series all summer long in Vermillion! On Wednesday nights throughout the summer, the Coyote Twin and the Clay County Fair Board and 4-H invite you to outdoor showings of favorite movies at Clover Hall. Admission is FREE and Coyote Twin concessions will be available for purchase on site.
Grab a lawn chair or blanket and come on over for some summer fun! The movie showing on August 25th will be Remember The Titans (PG).

Walk A Mile in their Shoes & Family Fun Day

Join the River City Family Connections & River City Domestic Violence Center for a family fun day & the walk a mile in their shoes even on Saturday, August 28th at The Lawn at the Meridian Plaza. Family fun day is from 11am-2pm. Events include: face painting, carnival games, bounce houses and more!

Check in for the walk a mile in their shoes begins at noon. Receive your FREE bag, water bottle, and shirt. If walking in the signature RED HEELS, pick them up at check-in. Walk begins at 12:30 on the Merdian Bridge in support of survivors of abuse.

Walk with a team or as individuals. All pledges go toward our agency and shelter, where our mission is to help all survivors of abuse in our community and surrounding counties.

Bon Homme Poker Run

Join the Springfield Chamber of Commerce for their Inaugural Bon Homme Poker Run on Saturday, September 11 from 12pm – 5pm. Proceeds to benefit the Bon Homme County Food Pantry. All vehicles welcome!

Registration from 11am – 12pm at the Springfield Veteran’s Memorial. $20 per card, no card limit. Free t-shirts to the first 100 registrants. Kickstands up at 12:05pm, done at 5pm Downtown Springfield. There will be multiple giveaways along the route.

1st Place – $800
Last Place – $200

The NFAA Foundation needs your help during the World Archery Championships, September 15-30th. Many of the shifts do NOT require a knowledge of archery.
